Bonnie J. Hacker began offering private therapy in this area in 1979. She was one of the pioneers of pediatric occupational therapy in the Durham and Chapel Hill areas. She brings her expertise and support to the entire staff of Emerge — A Child‘s Place.

Our staff is constantly learning new ideas and techniques. We offer state-of-the-art clinics, equipment and treatments for more effective results. Plus, we get many referrals from parents, physicians, psychologists, teachers and other therapists. That says a lot about occupational and speech therapy you and your family can trust.

Parent education is a cornerstone at Emerge. We work closely with parents to help them understand and help their children. You are the first expert about your child and we want to do everything we can to help you provide the support your child needs.

We have strong connections in the community. We welcome visits from other professionals at our clinics and Emerge therapists are often found in the community visiting classrooms and providing consultations.

We hope you will choose Emerge as your therapy home. But wherever you choose, make sure the program is a good fit for you and your child. We encourage you to visit the facility, then ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you and your child feel comfortable and welcome?
  • Are your concerns listened to and addressed?
  • Do you feel the kind of positive energy needed to support change and development?
